Well it’s official – it’s summer! Not by calendar date (we still have a few weeks) but by the fact that Memorial Day is past us. While it’s a day for remembrance, the fireworks and fanfare also kick off our summer festivities, enticing us to break out our shorts and summer whites. And while we strut our stuff on the outside, this color can be the most beautiful, fresh and airy hue to add to your home décor to strut your stuff on the inside.
This neutral can be used in a variety of design styles from coastal to retro to Victorian. Use shades of white and cream on your walls, ceilings, and moldings to brighten up your room as this palette can open up even the smallest of spaces. Play with varying shades, tones, and textures to create depth in a room or use similar hues on all surfaces to make a more cohesive look. Warmer shades of the neutral can also make an area look more interesting and dynamic by casting shadows on your walls. And always remember when using a lot of white, any contrasting color in a room will stand out.
If too much of the color palette intimidates you, simple tricks to bring a pop of white into your home is by using it as an accessory. Look for white table lamps (we love The Natural Light and Uttermost), accent chairs, area rugs, and floral arrangements.
See how we used this neutral hue at this Lakeside retreat.
