Outdoor Living

Outdoor spaces can be just as fun to make your own as indoor spaces. The more comfortable and appealing the space is, the more time will be spent outside. Who does not love that! Sitting outside enjoying a sunrise or sunset. Watching kids play on a vibrant green lawn or just enjoying conversation with friends and family all make investing in your outdoor space worth it! During the last year the home and design industry has been on the rise as people are spending more time at home and investing more in their living space.

Design

It is best to look at the overall look and use prior to picking out items for outdoor living. Cover from the elements is important to consider, especially up here in the Northwest. If your patio is not covered and it is in the budget, consider looking at extending your roofline for a covered or partially covered outdoor space. If that is not in the budget, umbrellas and awnings are another great option.

Rugs

A good outdoor rug will serve as an anchor to set your furniture pieces on.  Choose a neutral color for a soothing, calming effect, or one with patterns or pops of color for a more vibrant look.

Heating

Adding an element of heat will lend you to spending more time in your outdoor spaces. Free standing or built-in wood or gas fireplaces are a lovely addition. Styles range from traditional to modern and offer a warm ambient glow. The light cast from glass rocks adds a little extra sparkle and glam. Patio heaters have come a long way in design as well over the years.

Setting pavers as seen above adds interest and calls for little else. Thinking outside of the box can make your space unique and allow your personal style to shine.

Fabric

Choosing an outdoor fabric grade such as Sunbrella will give your fabric pieces protection against the suns damaging ultraviolet rays and have your colors staying brighter longer.

Accessorize

Save the accessories for last. Adding lighting, plants, pillows, and botanicals are the finishing touches. A little goes a long way as far as accessories. Avoid overdoing it as it will make the space look cluttered.
