Out with The Old, In with The Natural

Out with The Old, In with The Natural

If 2019 trends have taught us anything, it is that natural elements and interior design are the perfect pairing. No matter if your home consists of bright or muted colors, bold patterns or simple fabrics, or even if your home is sleek and modern, there is always a way to incorporate it.

Nature has a way of grounding us in our most stressful moments, and our homes are meant to be our soft place to land at the end of a busy day. So, it just makes sense that bringing natural materials such as wood, leather, rattan, wool, bamboo, or even artificial plants can produce an added level of comfort and tranquility into our abodes.

Whether its oak, cherry, hickory or maple, wood is not only incredibly durable, it is one of the most transformative and chameleon-like materials of the group. It can be stained in a wide variety of shades and colors, dressed up with antique ornamentation or modernized with sleek lines and minimal design. It can be used widely for flooring, paired with leather for a sofa or in smaller doses like end tables and picture frames. Here you can see how Classic Home pairs their craftsmanship with reclaimed wood to create awe-inspiring pieces.

Another great option is using rattan or bamboo. Both bamboo and rattan are natural materials sourced primarily in the Philippines, however, they are not from the same plant or species. Rattan is lightweight and impervious as it can bend and curve, taking on many wonderful forms. It is light golden in color and can brighten any room or outdoor area and can withstand extreme conditions of heat and humidity.

Bamboo; on the other hand, is a hollow grass and unlike rattan, it is inflexible. Despite being hollow it does not mean it is weak, in fact, it is stronger than many hardwoods like oak, cherry and maple and cannot be bent. It is one of the most sustainable natural materials on the market and makes a great addition to any room, whether it’s in the form of window treatments or floors. Bamboo blinds can help keep the sun out and add a serene Asian influence on your design, while bamboo floors are extremely durable and breathtakingly gorgeous. Even, find and make use of these natural textures by incorporating wicker furniture in your design.

You can also find a wonderful example of these materials in use by checking out Kalalou – a name that represents a unique product mix of individual artisan pieces that are never made the same way twice and all of which help integrate natural beauty into any home design.

Whether you choose to use wood, rattan or bamboo in your own home, these natural elements will pair flawlessly in your current creation. Incorporate them as you can and soon, you’ll see the benefits and tranquility the purer elements have on your homes and spirits.
