Suzani
Suzanis have been around for thousands of years and are best described as Central Asia’s version of the American quilt. Suzanis come from the Persian word for “needle” and refer to embroidered hangings or fabric coverings. Originating from Central Asia, these embroidered panels ( usually made of a silk/cotton base and silk thread) often depict ornate vines, leaves, flowers, and geometric patterns. Handmade and handstitched, Suzanis are traditionally stitched together by different family members and then later sewn together, making each piece unique. Older Suzanis have a neutral background, while newer versions have more colorful backgrounds.
