New Construction for the September Parade of Homes

Ciao Interiors is thrilled to have the opportunity to design, project manage, and furnish a new home for the Parade of Homes in September.  The house is a great example of the beauty that comes from using all locally produced stone and wood as well as expert craftsmanship.  Enjoy the images below for a preview of what’s to come in this new construction home.  The masonry rock on the exterior and interior fireplace is currently in the process of being finished, the structural beams are in place, and the next steps is to hand plaster the walls in the rich colors shown below.  This house will be a wonderful addition to the Parade of Homes of interior design from beginning to end and the details that can be achieved with local materials and hand craftsmanship.

Butternut Woolens – an Exciting Client Experience

Last week we had a design appointment with a new client that was both different and exciting.  The client, in her blog, does a much better job of painting the picture of the meeting than I could do.

Let us just say that it is times like this that really confirm that we, as interior designers, are not just feeding a luxury but feeding the souls of our clients and helping them create better environments for both them and their families.

Here’s a before and after which shows the dramatic difference that lighting and finishes can make in the warmth and mood of a room. Enjoy!

This kitchen started out drab and dated.  The stark white of the ceiling contrasts too much with the yellow of the walls and draws attention to the short cabinets.  The lighting is too typical.

This kitchen became an entirely new room with several major changes.  The cabinets were replaced with a dark finish and taken all the way to the ceiling, adding major drama and height.  The boring tile countertops were replaced with luxurious granite. A furniture-like island in the middle makes the room seem cozy and provides a great workspace.  Recessed lighting, a neutral color that mimics the walls, and simple light fixtures create a warm light.

Another great detail is the slate landing before the front door; it’s beautiful and practical as is stands up to the traffic of coming and going far better than hardwood.
